Redefining Rape. What? Why?

The last time that I checked, the year is now 2013, correct? Let us make the assumption(I know, I know, assuming is wrong) that I am indeed correct. It is not the 1800′s, or the 1500′s, or even 3900 BC. It is in fact 2013 all over the world. So here is a question for you.

Why is this a topic of conversation?

Rape is Rape, right? Rape, Incest, Molestation and Sexual Assault are bad, wrong, immoral, reprehensible, inhumane and the antithesis of Jesus’s teachings. Yet people all over the world seem to take it as a birth right for Men, to be able to Rape whomever, whenever, for whatever reason, and not be punished. Take the case in Steubenville, Ohio. Link here, here, here and here. What in the hell were these people thinking? Then you have the gang rape in India. Link here. Why? What part of No means No is difficult to understand? Theoretical Physics is difficult to understand. No means No is easier than Fire bad, Tree pretty.

I am a Father to a little girl, I am a Husband to a wonderful woman. I am a Son to a fantastic Mother. I am a Nephew, Uncle, Cousin and Friend to scores of great and grand ladies. And I am pissed off. At Politicians, to Talking Heads on Television, Radio and Internet to Pampered Athletes and Men in general. Why am I angry? Rape. Efforts to redefine Rape, to belittle the Women, Girls and Boys that are assaulted. This behavior is unacceptable. It is way past time to have an adult conversation regarding this issue, that should not be an issue, period. This is a very important and personal topic for me. Too many of my female friends have been Raped/Sexually Assaulted. And Goddammit, enough is enough.

First, let us define Rape. According to our friend Merriam Webster: ”...unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent…”

My friend Wikipedia says “...Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse, which is initiated by one or more persons against another person without that person’s consent. The act may be carried out by physical force, coercion, abuse of authority or with a person who is incapable of valid consent, such as a person who is unconscious or incapacitated…”

After reading that, is anyone confused as to what Rape is? Does anyone see a need to “redefine” it? I do not either. Unfortunately some Republican Lawmakers are confused as to the meaning of Rape. There are several new terms that are being bandied about, to try to classify Rape in a different, maybe not so bad light. Here are some examples; ”Honest Rape”, “Legitimate Rape”, “Enjoyable Rape”, “Forcible Rape“, “Easy Rape”, “Gift From God Rape”, among other equally disgusting terminology. Yes, actual people who were in Elected Office, or running for Elected Office that were using these terms. It is not something to be trivialized. It is not something to be joked about. What it IS, is a very serious situation that changes the person’s life forever. Male or female. For the purposes of this post, I will focus on females being Raped.

Why do politicians feel this is an issue they can use? Why do politicians feel this is an issue they can trivialize? That they can belittle the survivors? If the victim is LUCKY enough to survive, and not be murdered as well. Women who suffer this trauma do not deserve to be treated as nothing more than a campaign slogan to gin up your rabid, frothing base. This behavior, rhetoric and belief system is appalling to me. Women are not chattel. Women are not objects to be used, abused and thrown away like last nights pizza box. Women are not property. Anyone who believes otherwise is not a Man. A Real Man respects Women, and does not denigrate or defile them.

What ARE women? Equal to men, that is what they are. Women can vote(I know that irritates the Republicans to no end, link here, here, here and here), women can run for office(That really angers Joe Walsh(R-IL) link here), women can do everything a man can do(even pee standing up). Women can own property. Women can be Artists, Writers, Musicians, Scientists, Astronauts, Race Car Drivers, Cowgirls, Rodeo Clowns, Bull Riders, Construction Workers, Military Officers, Military Enlisted, Lawyers, Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Politicians, Business Owners, CEO’s, and infinitely other possibilities. THAT is what Women are. Women should be respected, and treated as you would treat any other human. Equality does not only apply to men.

What else needs to be said about Rape? Apparently a whole lot. Real Men need to step up and say to these “lawmakers” that Rape in any instance, IS Wrong and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. The sheer idiocy of these people making these statements is mind boggling to me. A Real Man would not Rape, Molest, or Assault anyone, Woman, Girl or Boy, Adult or Child. Nor would they advocate for a “redefining” of the definition of the term or weakening of the laws regarding this issue. It really is quite that simple. I cannot imagine the thought process of someone who could do such a thing. How can they feel that they are a Man? How can they think this is OK?

Before I go to far I will list the links for the articles, so my trolls cannot say I don’t show my work. You ready for this? Can your stomach handle it? There are a number of them. Here we go.

Todd Akin(R-MO)

In case you think I am making that up.

Roger Rivard(R-Rice Lake, WI)

Roger Mourdock(R-IN)

Clayton Williams(R-TX) This one is from back in 1990, when he was running for Governor. Considered to be the father of the modern “rape deniers”.

Ron Paul(R-TX) “If it’s an Honest Rape…” Really?

Paul Ryan(R-WI)

Linda McMahon(R-CT, running)

John Cornyn(R-TX)

Rick Santorum(R)

Bill Sponsored by Paul Ryan Trying to redefine Rape as “Forcible Rape”. Like there is any other kind.

Is that enough examples? Enough to make me sick to my stomach, and really question the quality of these men and lady. It appalls me, this culture of rape. That partisan politics would kill a law/bill like the Violence Against Women Act, link here, mainly because people like Republican Representative Eric Cantor think there is no reason to protect all women. It just boggles my mind.

This is a post I have been trying to write for a while, I have been trying to express this in as logical and emotionless way as I can, and I believe that I have finally succeeded. It is a topic that needs Men to stand up and say no more, to say enough is indeed enough, that we are tired of seeing our family members, friends, colleagues assaulted and Congress not caring. I say enough is enough. I am making a stand here and now. Will you stand with me? I am Papizilla, and I approve this message. Thank you for stopping by.

Just another example of how women’s “rights” will never be equal to men’s “rights”. Our culture is genetically engineered and bred to raise boys with the belief that a lot of sex for them with many partners is good, while teaching them (females are taught this as well) that women are whores and sluts if they have sex “before marriage”.
I could go on and on……

The World culture is or has developed that way. Why? What if it was their Mother? Sister? Daughter? Would they care? Would they turn their nose up and shun them? I just do not understand the mentality of someone who could do this. I really don’t. Thank you for commenting!

”Honest Rape”, “Legitimate Rape”, “Enjoyable Rape”, “Forcible Rape“, “Easy Rape”, “Gift From God Rape”?

You know, I think it’s about time I write the Ark Manifesto. Disgusting. And to know ALL of those phrases were actually used adds insult to injury. Papizilla, I’m tired. This isn’t humanity. At least, it’s not supposed to be. In my opinion, anyway.

    • Papizilla says:

No it isn’t humanity. Sometimes I wonder since there seems to be so few of us who are truly outraged at behaviors like this, if maybe we aren’t aliens sent here to observe the local fauna, and report back. I cannot understand members of my gender or species most times.

      • Sahm King says:

Yeah. At this rate, we’ll never be good enough for the Galactic Community (aka, the United Federation of Planets) to take us seriously.

It’s hard to keep believing in the homo sapien..

        • Papizilla says:

No kidding. You ended up in spam this time. I wonder why?

          • Sahm King says:

I’m not sure. I ended up in spam on my own posts, too… It’s weird. But I have a suspicion.

Reblogged this on The Arkside of Thought and commented:
PLEASE, READ THIS POST IF YOU EVER READ ANYTHING ELSE.

  4. I don’t understand why rape survivors are often the ones blamed. The mentality: “Well, what was she doing alone walking home at 2:00 am in a short skirt.”
Do people say the same thing when a man is murdered or mugged? Do they ask why he was alone, what he could have been doing out so late. Not as often. Really tired of this. It sickens me too.

    • Papizilla says:

I agree completely. I once saw a comment on a child molestation article that has stuck with me for years now. The article was about a toddler girl that was brutally assaulted.

“…Maybe she was begging for it strutting sexy in her diaper…”

I remember having to vomit after reading that comment. There were plenty of dislikes on the comment, but what was really sickening was the number of “likes”.

That is the same mentality that blames the victim. I don’t care if a woman is walking down the street at 2 am naked shaking her butt in your face, No means No. And it never gets brought up with men, unless it is a minority. Then what they were wearing matters. Ridiculous.
