Blogging Questions?
December 28, 2012 14 Comments
Recently someone asked me how I decide what posts, or whose posts I choose to re-blog. Also, how do I decide which posts to link to using the Zemanta service on WordPress I figured if one person had the questions, maybe more of you did as well. So I shall answer them. Are you ready for some hard hitting truthiness?
How do I decide which posts to re-blog? Simple. I re-blog posts that I feel are good. Or broach a subject that I have been thinking about and haven’t found the words to express it properly. Still others are a useful tool, or describe a process for those of us who may be struggling in that area. Some of these posts are so good it would do the world a disservice to not re-blog them. Nothing more than that. Papi like-y, Papi share-y.
How about the links at the end of your posts? How do you pick those? Once I found out about Zemanta and activated it, I simply tried to pick other WordPress blogs to add onto the end. If I can avoid it I do not link to other sites other than fellow WordPress bloggers. I felt it was the courteous thing to do, especially if their content was similar or related to what I was trying to explain in my posting. Since coming over to WordPress I have found our community to be so inviting, helpful and friendly that it just feels right to share and share alike.
I have also learned some new things in recent days. It is not enough to link to another WordPressers blog, it is also courteous to visit and like or comment on the post you linked to. Which now that I think of it, is kind of common sense, but I never thought of it.
With the hectic Holiday season I have been a very bad blog friend and not visited all of you as much as I should. I did try to rectify the reciprocal follow back though today. I hope I got to everyone. A number of very fine blogs that have found me, and now I have found them back. I have said it before and I shall say it again, I am very impressed with the overall quality of the blogs I find on WordPress, and with the WordPress community in general. A friendly and helpful group to be sure. Hopefully I have answered any questions regarding re-blogs or my selections of posts at the end. Thank you for stopping by.

Well I learn something new everyday. I’ve never even heard of Zemanta so I’ll have to click on your link and find out about it. Thanks for sharing.
The Zemanta thing has been a very helpful tool. I have found a number of quality blogs through it, and it helps to suggest related content. Makes it easier. Papi likes easy.
Thanks for commenting!
Lindi likes easy too!
Thanks!
The Papi Man is right on the money. I have had “run-ins” with bloggers who think of themselves as above us small time bloggers, and actually have blocked their content from being reblogged, even though WP has offered every blogger this option at the top of every post.
I enjoy reblogging content I am not knowledgeable enough to write about, or content vital enough to be passed on.
Sharing is caring and it also is how we help all bloggers in the bloggersphere reach new readers and spread the love.
Thank you Papizilla.
I agree completely. Why write it if you don’t want it to be shared? Thanks for commenting!
Nice. I was just thinking about this the other day. I realized, the same as you did, that I should probably visit and read some of the posts I link to. Question, though. Is SEO ever a consideration, or is that something that is a non-issue in lieu of the courtesy of linking to another blogger’s work?
What is SEO? To me, it is voodoo. Or like in Men In Black and the alien is in the machine sorting the mail, I picture that little alien guy or gal in the server setting up page ranks. I just hope that I make them giggle or they find my post enjoyable and place me at the top.
I do it to be courteous and to help our fellow bloggers, hopefully they reciprocate. Maybe if I understood how the SEO thing worked, I would try to do it on purpose.
I see. And I feel that. I’m still trying to understand it, myself. It’s like swimming through a bog that has pools of bs instead of water laden with rotting vegetation. Though, I am learning a thing or two.
Word up.
Actually, I think you’re a fine example of a blog friend. And accordingly, seasonal greetings from across the Atlantic. I’m fairly new to the blog community, still finding my way round, but I’ve seen enough to know that you are a good role model!
Thanks for (a) reading my posts, (b) liking them, and (c) your own spontaneous, accessible and highly enjoyable posts.
Simon
No problem, and thank you. Always pay it forward, I try to remain on the plus side in a karma sense. That way I can get away with the occasional bout of sassy behavior!
Happy Holidays to you and yours as well!

cool post! I just suggested your article through Zemantha (I can’t publish without it- addicted!)
btw any idea how to remove a suggested link? I’m in the habit of clicking ‘apply all’ and later noticing highlighted links to words in my artcles like ‘asked’ (really? who needs to know the definition of that!)
thanks!
